Immortal's Holocaust: Part 1:
Merida Mexico, 2021

Cat stood on top of the Pyramid of the Magician and looked down at the grave site of her former teacher and friend for over the past twenty years. Chris had done more than continued Cats training in the ways of Immortals, she had also helped Cat turn her life around and how to live life to the fullest. Now, she was teaching Cat one final lesson- a lesson Cat had experienced many times since she was 15 years old, death.

It had been three years since the war broke out. Three years since mortals learned the secret of Immortality. Three years since the world went to war between mortals and Immortals. Now, no one was safe no matter where they were. Not even on Holy Ground.

Since the beginning of time, Immortals only enemy were each other. Holy Ground was their only refuge. It was a rule. No matter what, Immortals were not allowed to fight on Holy Ground, but now they were not even safe there. Mortals did not live by that rule, and they were killing anyone they thought were linked to Immortals anytime anywhere.

"Cat, we have to get going!"

Cat looked down from the other side of the pyramid where the voice, one of Cats few mortal friends, was coming from. It was Chris's former Watcher, Mary Lindsey. "Give me another minute. PLEASE?" Cat asked. Cat had known Mary since before she was born. Her mother, Dr. Anne Lindsey was pregnant with Mary, and dating Cat's former teacher Duncan at the time Cat became Immortal, and after Mary was born, Cat would often help Anne out and baby-sit.

"One more minute and then we HAVE to get out of here before people start to wonder."

Cat didn't want to leave. Chris had always been there for her, and Cat wasn't sure if she could handle living alone. Living alone with the guilt.

"Cat, are you ever going to feed the horses, or do I have to do it myself?" Chris asked her student who was busy doing sword exercises.

"I'll do it when I'm done."

"You said that over an hour ago."

"I have a lot of stress to get out of me and you know this is the only way I can relieve stress."

"Fine. I will go and feed the horses." Chris said as she walked out of her farm house where the two were staying.

A few minutes later, Cat was brought out of her trance by an explosion and the scream of her teacher. Cat ran outside just in time to see the power of her teacher's Quickening escape her. "Chris!" Cat started to run, but the power hit her. She was the closest Immortal around to get the Quickening.

When Cat was able to regain her composure after the Quickening, she wondered what had happened had who had done it. There had been no buzz, so it couldn't have been another Immortal, so that left a mortal. Her suspicion was confirmed when she reached Chris and saw bomb fragment lodged in her teacher's body. An Immortal would never stoop so low now, they would at least have given Chris a fair fight.

Cat kneeled by her teacher and cried. Not only were there tears of anger and hurt, but tears of guilt. She should have been the one lying on the ground headless, not Chris.

"I'm sorry Chris. I should have fed the horses when you first asked me to. It's all my fault, and I'll never forgive myself for this." Cat walked down the stairs of the pyramid and planted Chris's sword at the head of her grave site, which was right next to her husband.

Mary walked over and hugged her. "It's not your fault."

"Yes it is. I should have done what Chris asked me to do. Then Chris would be here burying me."

"You can't go on blaming yourself. You have other more important problems to worry about. It was her time to go."

"No it wasn't! You were her Watcher for what, four years? You knew how good she was. It wasn't her time, it was mine. I should have done what I was told to do. I should have listened to her. I don't know why I didn't listen to her."

"Mom always said you used to have a stubborn streak about you. I guess I just came out at the wrong time."

"My stubborn streak always got me into trouble, and now Chris is paying for it."

"Come on, we need to get going if we're going to keep you safe. I have an idea, but we have to go now."

"Ok, though I don't see the point. If someone was after me, they'll find me."

"Who ever they are..."
